Ranjana Ghatak & Band
Mon 12 Nov 2018
We're excited to be welcoming Ranjana Ghatak to Dorset this weekend for her debut Artsreach tour.
Based in London, Ranjana has worked both nationally and internationally as an artist and composer. In 2014 she was commissioned by the Commonwealth Games to write a piece for the Big Big Sing Project in Glasgow, as well as previously recording on Gareth Malone’s Christmas album alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. More recently, in April 2018 Ranjana performed alongside 5 singers, representing the regions of the Commonwealth in Buckingham Palace to 52 Heads of Government, HRH The Queen and the Royal Family.
Since Spring 2018, Ranjana has been artist-in-residence for the Chitresh Das Institute in San Francisco, California, in addition to teaching beginners vocal at the Ali Akbar College of Music. She has performed in education concerts at the Barbican, run singing workshops and developed a body of work with two bands.
" Her milky tones wash off over in waves like a lubricated lullaby, gently lulling you into a state of semi-hypnosis.."
The Upcoming
Touring following the release of her debut album, she shares the stage with Mercury nominated bass player Liran Donin and in demand guitarist Jack Ross, both of whom have performed alongside the popular singer Namvula Rennie. The trio have spent the last two years recording and performing in several venues including Kew Gardens, Saffron Walden, Bath International Festival, London Jazz Festival, Barbican foyer and Wigmore Hall.
Taking inspiration from Indian Classical music, mystic poetry and her own writing, Ranjana will be singing in Sanskrit, Bengali, Hindi and English, performing new material written by herself and songs composed to mystic poets such as Kabir and Meera Bai.
Don't miss this opportunity to see this talented trio of musicians performing live in two intimate venues here in Dorset.
