Head Wrap Diaries

Uchenna DanceThis event has now finished

Working in partnership with the Rural Touring Dance Initiative, we wanted to make sure we could continue to bring high-quality professional dance to our audiences during the coronavirus pandemic. Throughout October the Rural Touring Dance Initiative is going digital, and will be bringing you three fantastic filmed dance shows followed by an opportunity for you to speak to the artists in a series of Q&A Zoom calls. Each show will be available to watch for free for a week, and you will need to book a free place in advance to attend any of the zoom calls. Find out more about the first production below...

Watch online anytime from Friday 16 - Thursday 22 October

Three fierce, clever and witty female characters take us through stories of community, heritage, womanhood and friendship.

Hair – worn long, worn short, worn wavy or in braids – is the subject of The Head Wrap Diaries, a funny and uplifting dance theatre show by Uchenna Dance which toured to Dorset for one night only in Halstock back in 2017. The show is set in a hair salon and is about people and their ongoing relationship with hair.

Blending club styles House, Waacking, and Vogue with African and Contemporary Dance, with a good dose of humour and a sizzling soundtrack of sounds, The Head Wrap Diaries explores femininity, beauty, culture, sisterhood and most importantly; HAIR!

Meet stylists Linda and Riyah who will take you on a hair journey that will have you laughing out loud, thinking about your own (and everyone else’s!) hair while you learn a thing or two about afro hair, straight from the hairdresser’s chair!
