Coracle
This event has now finishedCoracle fuse traditional with contemporary in an exhilarating voyage which has British folk tradition at its very heart, cut loose by contemporary classical and splashes of early music.
Coracle combines the talent, imagination and creativity of three contrasting musicians; accordionist Paul Hutchinson (Belshazzar's Feast) is a BBC Folk Award Best Live Artist nominee. Dorset based Karen Wimhurst is a widely commissioned composer and clarinet player, influenced by traditional, jazz and contemporary classical music. Anna Tam was shortlisted as Fatea's 2021 Instrumentalist of the Year, and adds nyckelharpa, viola da gamba, hurdy gurdy and cello to her crystal clear vocal.
The trio came together during lockdown, when individually they were experimenting beyond their usual repertoire and looking to embrace new influences and sounds. Improvising and recording with other musicians around the world with a similar sense of musical adventure, they were inspired to take things further. Coracle is the result and their debut album, Murmuration, was released in autumn 2022.
Expect ethereal to turn gutsy, passion to be tempered by a good laugh and a tide of improvisation which means no two evenings are ever the same.
