Dance to Health Project 2025

In partnership with Pavilion Dance South West, Dorset charity Artsreach is excited to launch a brand-new twelve-week dance class for the over 60’s this autumn at The Exchange in Sturminster Newton.

It’s proven that dance is not only great for lifting your mood, but it’s also great for your health. Specifically designed to suit older people who would benefit from low level fitness, socialising and generally having fun, this new series of gentle classes will be led by a specially trained teacher from Pavilion Dance South West.

Yvonne Gallimore, Artsreach Assistant Director said, “As the winter months approach we all tend to spend more time indoors, and for older people this may mean they experience greater feelings of loneliness and isolation. We are, therefore, very grateful to both the Britford Bridge Trust and Dorset Community Foundation, whose support has enabled us to co-ordinate a series of new classes specifically designed to suit older people living in North Dorset”.

Launching on Thursday 25 September and running every week until 11 December, classes cost just £6 and are open to anyone over 60 who would like to improve their fitness, have fun and meet new people – no dance experience is necessary! After the session, refreshments and space to socialise will be provided. Those who are not mobile enough to attend these classes alone are asked to attend with a carer for more support.
