Holy Cow!

Emily Hennessey & Sheema Mukherjee - 7:30pm Booking Info

Storyteller Emily Hennessey and sitar player Sheema Mukherjee conjure fast-flowing worlds of celestial celebrities, cosmic estate agents, daredevil demons and gods behaving (very) badly in these Indian stories of liberation, lies, love and life.

When the Holy Cow is stolen, it sets in motion an epic chain of events.

The River Goddess hurls herself from the skies, surging from mountains to sea, leaving no stone – or ego – unturned as she washes illusion from the truth. In a world held up by elephants and threatened by greed, heroes, mothers and tenderness are all found in unexpected places.

This spellbinding show is bursting with humour, dance, ritual and playful energy, with occasional bubbles and unpredictable watermelons!

Emily and Sheema have been fusing live storytelling and music for many years, specialising in Indian mythology with music that draws on both Indian classical and contemporary traditions. With a style that is highly accessible and deeply engaging, they have toured a wide range of venues including British Museum, Soho Theatre, York Theatre Royal and The Ancient Technology Centre.
