Off the Loom

A weaving exhibition with a contemporary twist!

5 February - 13 March 2005

For around 2000 years men and women from all over the British Isles have been weaving. Whilst commonly we think of weaving as a technique to produce wearable garments and domestic artefacts, this ancient craft allows the weaver a freedom of thought and expression in an energetic release of colour, pattern and texture.

This exhibition brought together a collection of work from expert weavers across the UK who have developed their skills in creating beuatiful textiles in a contemporary style.

Toured to: Melbury Osmond, Portland, Briantspuddle and Ibberton

Workshops included: Back-strap weaving with Daisy Bewes
